Who is Stevie Beat?
Steve Bravatti (Stevie Beat) is a Canadian musician from Scarborough, Ontario, specializing in acoustic, electric, and classical guitar. Although he considers himself to be primarily a guitarist (a lefty guitarist, in fact), he also enjoys singing and songwriting. Some of the music genres that have influenced his interests and playing style include ska, reggae, punk, and alternative rock. He also has an interest in musical subcultures, and how music and culture are linked in general."Stevie Beat" is a moniker that allows Steve to honour the bands and music that helped shape his life, his interests, and his sound.Steve’s music often ranges between harsh, rough sounds and light, soft melodies. As a fan of multiple styles of music, Steve’s musical sound and performance style is a testament to the music he loves, and the role that music has played for him; an appreciation for the chaotic and calming parts of life, a reflection of the human experience, and the potential to foster a sense of purpose, understanding, and belonging (for musicians and audiences alike).
"You look like you really love playing music!"
As far back as he can remember, Steve always had an interest in music. His enjoyment of listening to songs, singing along, and even making makeshift drum kits with chip cans eventually led to an interest in taking music lessons. His parents were able to sign him up for guitar lessons in elementary school, where he started learning on an acoustic guitar, and then also on electric guitar. After having to take a break from lessons midway through high school, Steve wanted to still keep up with the guitar in some way. He talked with his high school guidance counsellor and music teacher, and was able to take his school's Grade 11 music course. It was during Grade 12 that Steve realized he wanted to pursue a music degree for his post-secondary education, and he began preparing to audition for classical guitar music programs. He went to York University in Toronto to study classical guitar performance, and in 2015 earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with Honours. With over 10 years of teaching experience, Steve has helped guide players in their own musical journey. He has helped students to prepare for the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) classical guitar exams with high levels of success.
